Scarlet Rain Series

The third book in the Scarlet Rain Series is finally out! Creator of Shadows is out today, and continues the journey of the immortals, as they battle against Feoran and the darker forces behind him. Read on to find out more!

Blurb

When Lorenna is kidnapped by Feoran, the head of the vampyric Clan, it’s a dent in the Resistance. While she was expecting his twisted advances to her, she didn’t expect to feel something for him in return.

But that’s the least of her problems.

The city is more in ruins than ever, the Cuans being cut off one by one to prevent the rebellious humans taking over any part of New London. And after the discovery made at the Factory, armies of clones now walk the streets, ready to kill and trained viciously by their vampire masters.

The rebels must band together in full force, both to rescue their beloved witch from Feoran’s clutches, and to give the final push against the Clan. But a traitor in the heart of their inner circle is plotting with a vampire who wants more than they have, threatening to bring everything they have worked for tumbling down around them.

Can Lorenna gain her freedom to help her friends, and can they finally cut the head off the serpent that is the Clan? Or will humanity forever remain in its iron grip?

Where can I find out more about the author?

I’m Miranda Stork, and I’m addicted. Addicted to writing and reading books, anyway. And chocolate, but that’s another issue – no interventions, please.

I live in the middle of a forest in North Yorkshire, spending my spare time as the wild woman of the woods, scaring small children and upsetting the sheep. On the days that I feel like being civilized, or I haven’t got any unicorns to ride, I sit down and pour the tumbling thoughts in my head out onto digital paper. Mainly the thoughts and characters come out in paranormal form, with a good smattering of romance, because everyone likes a good cuddle. But you can also find strong elements of thrillers, myths, and even dystopia amongst the pages of all my novels. I’ve wanted to write books ever since I first realised that fairytales were not the newspapers of the fairy kingdom, but the imaginings of actual people who wanted to tell fancy made-up stories to other people. From that moment, I was hooked.

Why do I write? Good question. It might be easier to just keep the stories in my head, or even just to write them for myself. But I want to share them. There is no greater delight for a writer than when a reader devours your book, and declares, “Something in that novel resonated with me. And I want MORE.” So grab your lucky clover and a baseball bat (there’s some nasty paranormal creatures where we’re going), eat the cookie with ‘eat me’ tagged on it, and enter through the tiny door into the world of Miranda Stork…

Teaser Thursday – Creator Of Shadows!

Hello, lovely peeps! 😀 I know, I know what you’re thinking…no, not that thing about the cookies. That I was going to put up a snippet of Daughters Of Brigitania today? Well…I’m not. Muhahaha! I’ve decided it might be nice to give you guys a peek at Creator Of Shadows instead, the third in my Scarlet Rain series. Enjoy! 🙂

*And as always, this is from a WIP, so remember there might be a few editing errors. 😉

If she tried slamming herself against the door one more time, she was going to break something vital.

Lorenna gave a grunt, and slid down against the polished wood, landing heavily on her butt. She lifted a grubby hand and ran it through her stuck-together hair, rolling her eyes in disgust at the tatters. She slumped back and roved her eyes around her cell, taking in the broken bed and bench. The floor was made up of grey slabs of stone, cold and unforgiving as she perched herself on it.

“You could have at least left me with some water!” she cried out, twisting herself so her shout could be heard outside. Lorenna sighed to herself, and leaned her head against the door once more. She didn’t have a clue where Feoran was. Or why he had taken her—well, no, that wasn’t strictly true. It was because he had the hots for her. Unrequited hots, I’d like to add. But it still didn’t explain exactly why he thought locking her up would help her see him in a romantic light. Stockholm Syndrome might be the closest he would get, and that wasn’t going to happen any time soon.

Receiving no answer, the witch rubbed her hands together, firing up her magic. Thrusting her hands out, she attempted to blow a hole through the stone walls…succeeding only in making a few small sparks jump away from her fingers. “Bloody hell!” she yelled in frustration. There seemed to be some kind of barrier in the room, preventing her from casting any spells. Perhaps snatching her away from battle hadn’t been a spur of the moment thing, after all. Feoran had obviously planned this for some time.

As if on cue, keys rattled in the lock above Lorenna’s head. She jumped up in readiness, cursing the lack of protection she had for herself. Her violet eyes drifted over to the bed, a brief thought about trying to snap off a leg floating past. But there wasn’t time. She shuffled backwards as the oak door shuddered open, revealing the ominous silhouette of Feoran.

“Hello, little witch. Enjoying your stay?”

Lorenna gave a sneer. “The views aren’t much, and the food is terrible. I’d rate it a sh***y experience so far.”

Feoran strode into the room, the sconces from behind him casting light across the sharp planes of his face, black eyes gleaming like hot coals. A slow grin crossed his face, and he shrugged casually, meandering across the stone slabs until he halted in front of her. Lorenna flinched, but kept her features cold and unafraid. “Little witch, you’ll find you catch more flies with honey than vinegar, you know. I have much more comfortable rooms than this.”

“I’d rather jump in a pit of snakes, thanks.” Lorenna’s mouth drew in a hard line.

Feoran hid a snigger. “That can be arranged.”

Lorenna gave a dry laugh, and tossed her hair over her shoulder, folding her arms. “So what do I owe this immense pleasure to? I’ve got a busy day, you know.”

“Doing what? Making sparks?” The vampire jerked his finger towards her hands. “You can’t do much else in here. I had it specially made for you.”

“How kind,” Lorenna spat, her breathing speeding up with her rising fury. “Let’s cut to it. What the f*** do you want, Feoran?”

He twirled around and made his way to the bed, seating himself on it heavily. Lorenna’s eyes flickered over to the open door, but she knew better than that. Feoran followed her eye-line, clearing his throat to attract her attention back to him. “If you want to put it so bluntly, a f***. What do you think I want, Lorenna? A cosy conversation?”

Taken aback by his words, the witch swallowed anxiously, trying to coax some saliva back into her dry throat. She shook her head resolutely, tightening her grip on her skin. Her violet eyes darkened to purple as she innocently replied, “You know what, Feoran? I think you’re a lot like the Phantom of the Opera.”

“Not quite what you would expect under the surface and into choral music?” he smirked back, letting his tongue run over one fang.

Lorenna’s lips twitched, and she retorted, “No. Just as ugly under the mask and twice as unlikely to get the girl.”

Review of Raven-Bound by Karli Rush

Happy Hump Day all! Nearly Saturday, don’t worry… Now some time ago I reviewed my very good friend, Karli Rush’s book, ‘Crescent-Bound’, and loved it! So imagine how excited I was when I heard her second novel was out? That’s right, I also got Raven-Bound, as I loved Crescent-Bound so much, and it is today’s review book. So enjoy!

Alyssa and Marc are in love like no other crescent bound couple in history. All they want is to lead a simple life together, which unfortunately is not what fate has in store for them. A secret is being kept and this secret has found its way into the possession of a dark magick coven hidden below the already mysterious world of the witches who even now are among us.

Some secrets are not meant to be kept and so it is with the dark brotherhood of the raven, in their reach for control of the witch world they find the secret leads them in pursuit of the daughter and heir to the most powerful coven in existence. Once they possess her the real challenge is to keep her.

Being crescent bound has never been challenged like this before but the power of ice wields darkness and light, which will prevail, is the key to unlocking the secret that could put the entire world at risk.

Will Alyssa unravel her own secrets, and will dark magick again take her to he brink. How will they survive this twisted ride of evil and will all the pieces fit?

Warning: This book contains sex, naughty Language, graphic scenes, and Megan-ness.

You can grab your copy here at Smashwords, Amazon US, and Amazon UK!

Good Points

The gang are back! This books picks up where Crescent-Bound left off, and now they get to come over to my native country, England, woot! As this is the author’s second book, you can really tell that she is coming into her own ‘writing voice’, as the characters are even more well-defined, and they really leap off the page. The writing itself is smoother, and I was sucked in from the first page, and soon realised I had got half-way through the book when I had only meant to start reading it a little! The storyline is fast, and packed with twists and turns, magick and surprises. The dialogue is snappy as well, with plenty of things said that you immediately know are which characters as they speak. There is more sex scenes in this book, and last time I mentioned it was odd for a YA novel, but the author has informed me that it is for New Adult (17-21), so this is no problem. Oh, and they are HOT! The sexiness in this novel is so spicy you may need to take a cold shower after reading this-I’m just warning you! And the only thing I can add now, is……hurry up and write the next one, Karli!!! 😀

Bad Points

There were a few  errors in spelling and typos, but they were barely noticeable, and they in no way detracted from the story. The book was a lot cleaner and smoother than the first book, and is a lot more mellow. The other point-where is the next one, Karli!! I NEED more!

Overall

This is a fantastic second book in the trilogy, and only builds upon the first, devouring you once more into the magickal and twisted world of Alyssa and Marc, sucking you in and not letting go. This book is a roller-coaster of a ride, taking you through vivid, likeable characters, to hot sexiness that will make you blush if anyone walks past, to twists into darkness that will make you gasp out loud. Karli Rush has definitely excelled in her second book, and I can’t wait to see what the third book will hold for us.

I give this book…….5/5 stars!

Witches, Romance and MURDER???

Yes everyone, that’s right! It’s the first novella in The Bassinville Witches Series-OUT TODAY!!!

But this isn’t any old  novella, oh no. This is a huge-gamble-and-I-don’t-know-if-it-will-work kind of novella. Why? Because I wrote it in a week! Yes, this last week! Edited, everything. Because it’s a new challenge I’m trying, you see. I found that if I really put my head down, I can write about 5-7k a day, and I thought.,..so why does it take so long for me to write? I also don’t have Erin coming out until September, so that means my book collection will not pile up until more is written-and I’ve always been impatient 😀

So this is the full challenge I’ve set myself; to write one novella every month for the next year in between my novels and short stories! So With You In Spirit is the first one, and there are 11 more to follow! So each novella will be a story in it’s own right, but all twelve will also build up to a storyline that connects all the books.

So without further ado, here is the first novella, With You In Spirit!

Catherine has enough problems in her life without adding more. She lives in a town full of Wiccan witches, where she holds absolutely no powers. Her best friends seem to take all the best men, and her work colleague has a major crush on her. Other than that, life is pretty sweet.

Until a dagger appears in her bedroom, bringing back frightening memories of a past both her mother and herself left behind long ago. The ghosts of the past refuse to stay buried however, and they threaten to swallow both of them whole, closing in on them…

And then the charming, roguish Mr Rouquette appears. He is gorgeous, kind, and clever…so why does it feel as though there is something not quite right about him? And can Catherine trust him at all when her world begins to crumble around her feet, and he seems to be at the centre of it all?…

Interview and Review with Karli Rush-With Giveaway!

Good Monday to you all! I have another wonderful author interview for you all today with Karli Rush! We also have a review of her new book, Crescent Bound! Karli has always blazed her own trail, whether popular or not. She has three wonderful sons and is contently married to a supportive husband. Her passion outside of writing is photography and all things natural. She is an Autism advocate and enjoys hiking, bike riding and family.
Hello Karli, it’s a pleasure to have you here, welcome to my blog.
Thanks so much for having me.
As everyone knows in my interviews-random question first! You say on your blog that you’ve grown up loving everything paranormal; have you ever had a run-in with the paranormal yourself?
Actually I have, years ago a friend and I took a day trip to a quaint little town deep in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas called Eureka Springs.  At the top of this hill overlooking the town is a haunted hotel called The Crescent Hotel.  On the third floor landing I happened to gaze out a window looking down at a garden when I saw in the reflection of the glass a Victorian woman reaching out as if to get our attention.  What really got my adrenaline going was that my friend saw it too!  We both spun around at the same time and the hundred foot hallway was completely empty. It was an experience that I think altered how my friend and I both saw things.  I mean, your world opens up when you start believing in the paranormal.
Spooky! That definitely sounds like something I would remember! So when did you realise you wanted to be a writer? Do you remember what inspired you?
I always dabbled a bit in writing, my Dad gave me a diary when I was young, and I wrote a few short stories about horses (which I love) and then I started to take writing more seriously during my English Composition class in college. I turned in a paper about my experience at the Crescent Hotel and the professor read it to the class without telling anyone who wrote it.  I guess hearing my classmates reaction to the story gave me a boost, and being an inspiring writer is on the top of my bucket-list.

What books do you read? Do you read books in your genre, or books very different from it?
I read tons of books. One of my favorite past times, as a teen I came across Stephen King novels. My first of his was Salem’s Lot and that is when my reading frenzy began. I eat up books, mainly in my genre but some are not. I have well over 200 paperbacks and hardbacks including an array of authors like: Gena Showalter, Kresley Cole, Richelle Mead,Charlaine Harris, Suzanne Collins, and of course E. L. James  just to name a few.

Plenty to read then! Your own first novel, Crescent Bound, sounds really interesting.  Can you tell us more about it?
When I wrote Crescent Bound it came out of me like a flood, it literally poured out, night and day I wrote for almost an entire year.  When I came up for air I realized that I didn’t just write Crescent Bound, I wrote two other books also.  A true trilogy you could say.  I had to break up Crescent Bound because the word count was in the area of 300,000 words. In the story my protagonist, Alyssa Worthington,  is a young witch discreetly trying to maintain a life among the humans. She attends a High School with her best friends Lisa and Megan (who are witches as well), and finds love and danger where she least expects it.  Unforgettable lessons she will learn about herself and the witch world she is submerged into.
Yeah, I mean who would suspect someone who went about everyday things…*ahem* Just kidding! So what inspired this novel?
A dream…I have noticed a lot of authors mention their creations unfold from dreams. I never really wrote about mine until Crescent Bound haunted me for months, tormenting me til I put pen to paper so to speak.
That’s sounds cool, rather like Mary Shelley and Frankenstein’s Monster….Where can we find your novels?
Smashwords.com  I absolutely love this site, it is amazing and they distribute to Amazon, Sony, Barnes and Noble, including many others, they also have it on their own site in most downloadable  formats, it is very convenient for a reader.
What can we expect to see from you in the future?
Raven Bound – book two – a continuation of Crescent Bound is expected to be released June 25, 2012.
Demon Bound – book three – wrapping up that trilogy should be out by October.
Shadow Bound – A trip into the ancient past to discover how my Protagonist from Crescent Bound met her life-mate for the first time.
Ice Bound – This one is Crescent Bound told by the leading man’s point of view.  It contains  so much that is not in Crescent Bound allowing it to stand as it’s own story.
And finally, for now, a novel I am working on currently, totally different in many ways from all of the above, is a book called Pine Needles, it is a modern day, suspense, thriller, romance, with an almost sci-fi / medieval twist to it.  Conan meets Avatar!
Whew, I expect all that will keep you busy, but we’ll look out for all of them! Last question of randomness! If you were a witch yourself, what element would you want to control, and why?
Well in my witch world the elemental power I would love to have is fire, that element best suits me because I have an aversion to being cold, lol so, yeah fire for me.
You can find out more about Karli Rush on Facebook, Twitter, her website, and on her blog. Thank you for being here, Karli, any parting words?

Miranda, you do know that you rock! Right?
My parting words…I’m sure everyone knows that feeling when you finish the last page of a book and you take this big sigh, and feel good even if it is just for that small moment, well that is my goal, to give everyone that feeling from a good read! Thank you Miranda!
Thank you for being here, it’s been great 😀
Now please scroll down for my review of Crescent Bound and a chance to win a free copy!

Alyssa Worthington is the daughter and sole heir to the most prestigious coven in the witch world. Her childhood has been spent in the mundane human world learning to blend in and hide who she truly is, and it is here, during her last year that she meets a striking ex-high school quarterback from a small town in Montana who will turn her world upside down.Alyssa holds the element of fire, unlike her best friends Lisa and Megan, who are both air elementals. It is the elemental powers that reside inside which require positive thoughts and positive actions in order to maintain this magickal connection. What would happen to a witch that let this get out of control? How can evil become the driving force behind revenge and death?Dark secrets, dark magick and a desperate desire for revenge will bring Alyssa to the brink of destruction. She is being chased, but this pursuit is a silent one and her chaser has but one goal, Alyssa’s complete and total destruction. Will she overcome this dark threat and begin to live out her destiny? Will she survive and if so, will she lose herself as part of the price for being alive? Or, will her destiny rest on being crescent bound?

With all these dark forces creeping around silently in Alyssa’s life, her coven pushes for answers, some of the answers about an eighth and missing coven, in the witch world, lie with her new interest. Marcus may be the key to unlocking the mystery of the silent darkness threatening the seven remaining covens.

Good Points

I loved the characters! They were full of life, and the writer made them vivid and believable, which I love. I also (as a Wiccan 😉 ) loved the idea that they were witches. A lot of the festivals mentioned were completely correct, and the rituals, although made slightly different for the book, obviously, were very true to life. The author has obviously done her research, and it shows. The plot-line was exciting and pulled you along at just the right pace, and kept you hooked from the very first line.

Bad Points

Okay, this is a strange point, but…this is classed as a YA novel, and yet there were sex scenes within the book. Although they weren’t  especially steamy, I don’t know how comfortable I’d be allowing a teenager to read a book with these kinds of scenes in, and it lowered my opinion of the book slightly. There was also the odd typing error, but not so many that I would not read it.

Overall

I thought this was a great book; imaginative and original. I was hooked from the first chapter, and couldn’t put it down at all. The characters were amazing, and the story and dialogue was written at just the right pace. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves magic and excitement, and wants a lovely romance to go along with it all. But I have to mark this book because there were sex scenes, and I don’t feel that it is appropriate for young teenagers to be reading.

I give this book……4/5 stars!

This giveaway has now ended, thank you for entering!
