So What’s New, Scarlet Pimpernel?

Holy wardrobes, Batman! There’s no way it’s been two months since I posted on here…has it? You guys remember my usual drink, right? I wouldn’t like to have to repeat that recipe again.¬†Anyhoo, HELLO! And hello to the new followers I’ve gained over Christmas and New Year – it’s fab to have you here. Happy New Year to everyone, and I hope you don’t have any resolutions I wouldn’t do. ūüėČ

As for my resolutions, just before Christmas I embarked on a big one – signing up for a degree with the Open University. It starts in just two days, and frankly, I’m chewing my nails off just a little bit. A tiny bit. It’s not really because of anything more nerve-racking than it being a new experience, so I’m loving it, but at the same time, I feel like that new kid at school again. Still, at least I get to behave like a student now, leaving clothes in a dirty pile, not doing the washing-up….what? It’s practically¬†law.¬†I mustn’t do these things. It’ll upset the Law of Students Leaving Their Clothes Act….er….well, never mind about all that. I’m posting a snippet today to kick things off for the New Year, so look at that instead. Shiny, shiny snippet!

It’s just a little bit from the upcoming¬†Creator of Shadows,¬†and things are kicking off between Feoran and Lorenna. Seriously, things are on fiyah right now. Enjoy! (and I promise the next post will not be so late next time! ūüėÄ )

‘As if on cue, keys rattled in the lock above Lorenna‚Äôs head. She jumped up in readiness, cursing the lack of protection she had for herself. Her violet eyes drifted over to the bed, a brief thought about trying to snap off a leg dancing around her mind. But there wasn‚Äôt time. She shuffled backwards as the oak door shuddered open, revealing the ominous silhouette of Feoran.

‚ÄúHello, little witch. Enjoying your stay?‚ÄĚ

Lorenna gave a sneer. ‚ÄúThe views aren‚Äôt much, and the food is terrible. I‚Äôd rate it a shitty experience so far.‚ÄĚ

Feoran strode into the room, the sconces from behind casting light across the sharp planes of his face, black eyes gleaming like hot coals. A slow grin crossed his face, and he shrugged casually, meandering across the stone slabs until he halted in front of her. Lorenna flinched, but kept her features cold and unafraid. ‚ÄúLittle witch, you‚Äôll find you catch more flies with honey than vinegar, you know. I have much more comfortable rooms than this.‚ÄĚ

‚ÄúI‚Äôd rather jump in a pit of snakes, thanks.‚ÄĚ Lorenna‚Äôs mouth drew in a hard line.

Feoran hid a snigger. ‚ÄúThat can be arranged.‚ÄĚ

Lorenna gave a dry laugh, and tossed her hair over her shoulder, folding her arms. ‚ÄúSo what do I owe this immense pleasure to? I‚Äôve got a busy day, you know.‚ÄĚ

‚ÄúDoing what? Making sparks?‚ÄĚ The vampire jerked his finger towards her hands. ‚ÄúYou can‚Äôt do much else in here. I had it specially made for you.‚ÄĚ

‚ÄúHow kind,‚ÄĚ Lorenna spat, her breathing speeding up with her rising fury. ‚ÄúLet‚Äôs cut to it. What the f**k do you want, Feoran?‚ÄĚ’

Review of Raven-Bound by Karli Rush

Happy Hump Day all! Nearly Saturday, don’t worry… Now some time ago I reviewed my very good friend, Karli Rush’s book, ‘Crescent-Bound’, and loved it! So imagine how excited I was when I heard her second novel was out? That’s right, I also got Raven-Bound, as I loved Crescent-Bound so much, and it is today’s review book. So enjoy!

Alyssa and Marc are in love like no other crescent bound couple in history. All they want is to lead a simple life together, which unfortunately is not what fate has in store for them. A secret is being kept and this secret has found its way into the possession of a dark magick coven hidden below the already mysterious world of the witches who even now are among us.

Some secrets are not meant to be kept and so it is with the dark brotherhood of the raven, in their reach for control of the witch world they find the secret leads them in pursuit of the daughter and heir to the most powerful coven in existence. Once they possess her the real challenge is to keep her.

Being crescent bound has never been challenged like this before but the power of ice wields darkness and light, which will prevail, is the key to unlocking the secret that could put the entire world at risk.

Will Alyssa unravel her own secrets, and will dark magick again take her to he brink. How will they survive this twisted ride of evil and will all the pieces fit?

Warning: This book contains sex, naughty Language, graphic scenes, and Megan-ness.

Good Points

The gang are back! This books picks up where Crescent-Bound left off, and now they get to come over to my native country, England, woot! As this is the author’s second book, you can really tell that she is coming into her own ‘writing voice’, as the characters are even more well-defined, and they really leap off the page. The writing itself is smoother, and I was sucked in from the first page, and soon realised I had got half-way through the book when I had only meant to start reading it a little! The storyline is fast, and packed with twists and turns, magick and surprises. The dialogue is snappy as well, with plenty of things said that you immediately know are which characters as they speak. There is more sex scenes in this book, and last time I mentioned it was odd for a YA novel, but the author has informed me that it is for New Adult (17-21), so this is no problem. Oh, and they are HOT! The sexiness in this novel is so spicy you may need to take a cold shower after reading this-I’m just warning you! And the only thing I can add now, is……hurry up and write the next one, Karli!!! ūüėÄ

Bad Points

There were a few  errors in spelling and typos, but they were barely noticeable, and they in no way detracted from the story. The book was a lot cleaner and smoother than the first book, and is a lot more mellow. The other point-where is the next one, Karli!! I NEED more!

This is a fantastic¬†second¬†book in the trilogy, and only builds upon the first, devouring you once more into the magickal and twisted world of Alyssa and Marc, sucking you in and not letting go. This book is a¬†roller-coaster of a ride, taking you through vivid, likeable characters, to hot sexiness that will make you blush if anyone walks past, to twists into darkness that will make you gasp out loud. Karli Rush has definitely excelled in her second book, and I can’t wait to see what the third book will hold for us.

I give this book…….5/5 stars!

Witches, Romance and MURDER???

Yes everyone, that’s right! It’s the first novella in The Bassinville Witches Series-OUT TODAY!!!

But this isn’t any old ¬†novella, oh no. This is a huge-gamble-and-I-don’t-know-if-it-will-work kind of novella. Why? Because I wrote it in a week! Yes, this last week! Edited, everything. Because it’s a new challenge I’m trying, you see. I found that if I really put my head down, I can write about 5-7k a day, and I thought., why does it take so long for me to write? I also don’t have Erin coming out until September, so that means my book collection will not pile up until more is written-and I’ve always been impatient ūüėÄ

So this is the full challenge I’ve set myself; to write one novella every month for the next year in between my novels and short stories! So With You In Spirit is the first one, and there are 11 more to follow! So each novella will be a story in it’s own right, but all twelve will also build up to a storyline that connects all the books.

So without further ado, here is the first novella, With You In Spirit!

Catherine has enough problems in her life without adding more. She lives in a town full of Wiccan witches, where she holds absolutely no powers. Her best friends seem to take all the best men, and her work colleague has a major crush on her. Other than that, life is pretty sweet.

Until a dagger appears in her bedroom, bringing back frightening memories of a past both her mother and herself left behind long ago. The ghosts of the past refuse to stay buried however, and they threaten to swallow both of them whole, closing in on them…

And then the charming, roguish Mr Rouquette appears. He is gorgeous, kind, and clever…so why does it feel as though there is something not quite right about him? And can Catherine trust him at all when her world begins to crumble around her feet, and he seems to be at the centre of it all?…

Interview and Review with Karli Rush-With Giveaway!

Good Monday to you all! I have another wonderful author interview for you all today with Karli Rush! We also have a review of her new book, Crescent Bound! Karli has always blazed her own trail, whether popular or not. She has three wonderful sons and is contently married to a supportive husband. Her passion outside of writing is photography and all things natural. She is an Autism advocate and enjoys hiking, bike riding and family.
Hello Karli, it’s a pleasure to have you here, welcome to my blog.
Thanks so much for having me.
As everyone knows in my interviews-random question first! You say on your blog that you’ve grown up loving everything paranormal; have you ever had a run-in with the paranormal yourself?
Actually I have, years ago a friend and I took a day trip to a quaint little town deep in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas called Eureka Springs.  At the top of this hill overlooking the town is a haunted hotel called The Crescent Hotel.  On the third floor landing I happened to gaze out a window looking down at a garden when I saw in the reflection of the glass a Victorian woman reaching out as if to get our attention.  What really got my adrenaline going was that my friend saw it too!  We both spun around at the same time and the hundred foot hallway was completely empty. It was an experience that I think altered how my friend and I both saw things.  I mean, your world opens up when you start believing in the paranormal.
Spooky! That definitely sounds like something I would remember! So when did you realise you wanted to be a writer? Do you remember what inspired you?
I always dabbled a bit in writing, my Dad gave me a diary when I was young, and I wrote a few short stories about horses (which I love) and then I started to take writing more seriously during my English Composition class in college. I turned in a paper about my experience at the Crescent Hotel and the professor read it to the class without telling anyone who wrote it.  I guess hearing my classmates reaction to the story gave me a boost, and being an inspiring writer is on the top of my bucket-list.

What books do you read? Do you read books in your genre, or books very different from it?
¬†I read tons of books. One of my favorite past times, as a teen I came across¬†Stephen King novels. My first of his was Salem’s Lot and that is when my reading frenzy began. I eat up books, mainly in my genre but some are not. I have well over 200 paperbacks and hardbacks¬†including an array of authors like:¬†Gena¬†Showalter,¬†Kresley¬†Cole,¬†Richelle¬†Mead,Charlaine¬†Harris, Suzanne Collins, and of course E. L. James ¬†just to name a few.
Plenty to read then! Your own first novel, Crescent Bound, sounds really interesting.  Can you tell us more about it?
When I wrote Crescent Bound it came out of me like a flood, it¬†literally¬†poured out, night and day I wrote for almost an entire year. ¬†When I came up for air I realized that I didn’t just write Crescent Bound, I wrote two other books also. ¬†A true trilogy you could say. ¬†I had to break up Crescent Bound because the word count was in the area of 300,000 words. In the story my¬†protagonist, Alyssa Worthington,¬†¬†is a young witch¬†discreetly¬†trying to¬†maintain a life among the humans. She attends a High School with her best friends Lisa and Megan (who are witches as well), and finds love and danger where she least expects it. ¬†Unforgettable lessons she will learn about herself and the witch world she is submerged into.
Yeah, I mean who would suspect someone who went about everyday things…*ahem* Just kidding! So what inspired this novel?
A dream…I have noticed a lot of authors mention their creations unfold from dreams. I never really wrote about mine until Crescent Bound haunted me for months,¬†tormenting¬†me til I put pen to paper so to speak.
That’s sounds cool, rather like Mary Shelley and Frankenstein’s Monster….Where can we find your novels?  I absolutely love this site, it is amazing and they distribute to Amazon, Sony, Barnes and Noble, including many others, they also have it on their own site in most downloadable  formats, it is very convenient for a reader.
What can we expect to see from you in the future?
Raven Bound – book two – a continuation of Crescent Bound is expected to be released June 25, 2012.
Demon Bound – book three – wrapping up that trilogy should be out by October.
Shadow Bound – A trip into the ancient past to discover how my Protagonist from Crescent Bound met her life-mate for the first time.
Ice Bound – This one is Crescent Bound told by the leading man’s point of view. ¬†It contains ¬†so much that is not in Crescent Bound allowing it to stand as it’s own story.
And finally, for now, a novel I am working on currently, totally different in many ways from all of the above, is a book called Pine Needles, it is a modern day, suspense, thriller, romance, with an almost sci-fi / medieval twist to it.  Conan meets Avatar!
Whew, I expect all that will keep you busy, but we’ll look out for all of them! Last question of randomness! If you were a witch yourself, what element would you want to control, and why?
Well in my witch world the elemental power I would love to have is fire, that element best suits me because I have an aversion to being cold, lol so, yeah fire for me.
You can find out more about Karli Rush on Facebook, Twitter, her website, and on her blog. Thank you for being here, Karli, any parting words?
Miranda, you do know that you rock! Right?
My parting words…I’m sure everyone knows that feeling when you finish the last page of a book and you take this big sigh, and feel good even if it is just for that small moment, well that is my goal, to give everyone that feeling from a good read! Thank you Miranda!
Thank you for being here, it’s been great ūüėÄ

Alyssa Worthington is the daughter and sole heir to the most prestigious coven in the witch world. Her childhood has been spent in the mundane human world learning to blend in and hide who she truly is, and it is here, during her last year that she meets a striking ex-high school quarterback from a small town in Montana who will turn her world upside down.Alyssa holds the element of fire, unlike her best friends Lisa and Megan, who are both air elementals. It is the elemental powers that reside inside which require positive thoughts and positive actions in order to maintain this magickal connection. What would happen to a witch that let this get out of control? How can evil become the driving force behind revenge and death?Dark secrets, dark magick and a desperate desire for revenge will bring Alyssa to the brink of destruction. She is being chased, but this pursuit is a silent one and her chaser has but one goal, Alyssa’s complete and total destruction. Will she overcome this dark threat and begin to live out her destiny? Will she survive and if so, will she lose herself as part of the price for being alive? Or, will her destiny rest on being crescent bound?

With all these dark forces creeping around silently in Alyssa’s life, her coven pushes for answers, some of the answers about an eighth and missing coven, in the witch world, lie with her new interest. Marcus may be the key to unlocking the mystery of the silent darkness threatening the seven remaining covens.

Good Points

I loved the characters! They were full of life, and the writer made them vivid and believable, which I love. I also (as a Wiccan ūüėČ ) loved the idea that they were witches. A lot of the festivals mentioned were completely correct, and the rituals, although made slightly different for the book, obviously, were very true to life. The author has obviously done her research, and it shows. The plot-line was exciting and pulled you along at just the right pace, and kept you hooked from the very first line.

Bad Points

Okay, this is a strange point, but…this is classed as a YA novel, and yet there were sex scenes within the book. Although they weren’t ¬†especially steamy, I don’t know how comfortable I’d be allowing a teenager to read a book with these kinds of scenes in, and it lowered my opinion of the book slightly. There was also the odd typing error, but not so many that I would not read it.

I thought this was a great book; imaginative and original. I was hooked from the first chapter, and couldn’t put it down at all. The characters were amazing, and the story and dialogue was written at just the right pace. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves magic and excitement, and wants a lovely romance to go along with it all. But I have to mark this book because there were sex scenes, and I don’t feel that it is appropriate for young teenagers to be reading.

I give this book……4/5 stars!
